Sizing John BESS

Cobalt Energy was appointed by Varco Energy as Technical Advisor, Owner’s Engineer and Principal Designer on the 57 MW / 114 MWh Sizing John BESS project in Liverpool. As a grid-scale energy storage development, the project plays avital role in supporting system stability and enabling the UK’s transition to net zero.

Our multidisciplinary team provided technical due diligence during pre-construction, supported grid connection and civil/electrical design reviews, and maintained oversight throughout the construction phase to ensure quality and compliance. We also fulfilled Principal Designer duties under CDM regulations, working to embed safety into the design process from an early stage.

Cobalt’s role was instrumental in ensuring that project delivery aligned with UK regulatory frameworks, safety best practices, and performance expectations, contributing to the successful realisation of one of the UK’s key BESS assets.
